But for OEM buyers, open ear design also brings one problem that is easy to underestimate.

That problem is sound leakage.

A sample may sound good when tested in a quiet room. It may also look comfortable and lightweight. But once the same product is used in an office, on public transport, or in a retail demo environment, sound leakage can quickly become a real user complaint.

For open ear earbud OEM projects, buyers should not only ask whether the sound is loud enough. They should also ask whether the sound is controlled enough.

The Sample Can Mislead Buyers

Buyers should also confirm whether the final sample is linked to a clear version record. If the acoustic structure, shell tooling, speaker unit, or firmware tuning changes after approval, the leakage performance may change too.

This is why open ear earbuds need a more careful sample approval process than standard entry-level earbuds.

Before Mass Production

Before mass production, buyers should avoid vague approval like “the sound is okay” or “the sample feels comfortable.” These comments are too subjective.

A stronger approval record should confirm the intended use case, sample version, acoustic tuning direction, and key test scenarios. If the buyer wants to position the product for office users, the sound leakage expectation should be different from a sports-only model.
